Welcome to one of the First Ladies of the London club scene.
In recent years Marcia have played opening dj sets for UK soul siren Mica Paris, James Taylor Quartet, twice for British soul king Omar Lye-Fook, the legendary singer and philanthropist Annie Lennox, UK saxophonist and Royal Appointed Yolanda Brown, the US boogie maestro Leroy Burgess, the Ambassador to the United States Democrat Mr Matthew Barzun, and she has opened up for neo soul queen Jill Scott.
Apparently, Marcia is the first woman (and black person) to have ever DJ’ed at the Royal Opera House in London which was televised live for Channel 4 (Cultural & Diversity Awards 2010).
Marcia has held radio shows on Ministry of Sound radio (with LadyBugz) and solo as well as having done guest + cover shows for them. Additionally, she has been a guest a number of occasions on RinseFM and stood in for presenter / DJ Josey Rebelle, she had a regular show on Colourful radio, Brazen radio, Choice FM, worked in radio production for the original Kiss FM London and many other UK radio stations.
A long-standing face in the capital as a DJ, radio broadcaster, journalist, former street/jazz dancer and founder of her own music PR / Artist agency Talking Music Productions, she truly has sown and grafted hard for the love of music – more often than not you can find her blessing many clubbers with stylish sets of jazzy dance floor treats from her extensive record collection.
As a selector, Marcia is of course no stranger to the decks, having spent much of the past two decades running her own events and over 32 years guesting at parties both in and around London Town and abroad. She’s featured alongside a veritable who’s who of the international DJ elite, all the while championing a truly diverse range of black music.
In the past she also co-presented a number of regular radio shows, including stints on Ministry Of Sound, House FM / Push FM, Solar, and Colourful Radio, as well as guest slots and cover shows on Rinse FM, and other stations.
When she is not playing out under her own name, you can find her rocking dancefloors hosting Girlz B Like – house/jazz dancer-led jams dedicated to spotlight seasoned and upcoming female, vinyl-only DJanes. Marcia is part of the London-based DJ crew The Ladyz™ (formerly known as LadyBugz), as well as the inspirational vinyl-specialist act Gospel Night Fever who put on the Get Lifted parties around London.
Marcia’s probably most well-known for her exhilarating club sets of deep house, broken beat and disco, but don’t underestimate her, as some of Marcia’s recent Soundcloud and Mixcloud uploads will attest, she also loves digging deep in the crates to pull out classic jazz, jazz funk, uplifting soul/gospel and reggae records that no doubt will please the most ardent of dancers and real music enthusiasts alike.
