Music has always been more than a passion for Jerry Frempong. It is part of his DNA. As the son of Anthony Roberts Frempong, a pioneer of Ghanaian Hi Life and founder of Asona Records, Jerry grew up immersed in a world where African rhythm met global sound. Studio sessions and musical experimentation in the late 1980s shaped his ear early, laying the foundation for the deep and soulful identity heard in every deep house DJ mix he creates today.
His journey into DJing began at just 17 when he discovered vinyl mixing. That moment sparked a lifelong dedication to the craft. While studying in Leeds, Jerry began hosting university parties alongside Ian Morbey. Their chemistry behind the decks quickly stood out. Jerry leaned into UK garage and soulful house while Ian explored deeper progressive sounds, together creating an atmosphere that resonated with dance floors and built a loyal following.
Jerry’s sound evolved through nights at Back to Basics and inspiration from legends like Erick Morillo, Ralph Lawson and Carl Cox. As a vinyl purist, he spent countless hours digging through crates in London’s most respected record shops, refining a rich and eclectic musical palette that now defines his deep house DJ mix style.
A major influence on Jerry’s musical direction came from the golden era of Ibiza mix CDs. He spent years listening to iconic and inspiring sets by Pete Tong, Pete Gooding, Sasha, John Digweed and Carl Cox. These mixes introduced him to the magic of Balearic sound, early Ibiza trance, and progressive house. In 2008, Jerry experienced Ibiza for the first time with his wife, visiting legendary clubs like Pacha Ibiza. That trip cemented his connection to the island’s energy and continues to inspire his Ibiza classics DJ mixes today.
In 2004, Jerry and Ian launched Pret A Ecouter, an intimate party series built on a friends of friends ethos. Known for vibrant dance floors and genre spanning sets, the brand continues to host sold out events including River Thames boat parties and exclusive London gatherings. These events perfectly reflect Jerry’s ability to blend deep house, soulful grooves, and Ibiza inspired sounds into unforgettable experiences.
Over the years, Jerry has performed at leading venues such as Ministry of Sound, Sankeys, Mint Club, and Café de Paris, as well as across Ibiza and the UK. He has shared lineups with respected names including Danny Rampling, Joey Negro, Norman Jay and Robert Owens, consistently delivering high energy sets that connect deeply with audiences.
Beyond the decks, Jerry co authored Everything You Need to Know About DJing and Success with Danny Rampling and Ben Brophy, helping inspire a new generation of DJs. He also runs DJs on Demand, an agency dedicated to developing emerging talent and bringing fresh sounds to global audiences.
